Screw Guns

Although having a look and feel of a drill, screw guns don’t have the same capabilities as a drill. One big difference is the fact that most screw guns are now using the Slotted Drive System (SDS) and only accept a hexagonal shank bit. You can find boring drill bits to attach to a screw gun but this is outside of the intended design of the screw gun to just drive screws. While you can use both drills and screw guns to drive screws and boreholes the screw gun excels at driving screws with some models having over 4500 RPM.

Some brands such as Kobalt have collated screw attachments that let you drive screws at a faster rate. Kobalt claims that with its 24v lithium-ion screw gun (Model# KDS 124b-03), a fully charged 4Ah battery, and the collated attachment you can drive over 4000 screws before you run out of battery power.

DeWalt on the other hand makes a screw gun with a threaded clutch housing so that you can attach 3rd party collated attachments to it. It also works on the 20V max XR battery system which offers batteries from 4 to 8 AH including the slim profile 4 Ah battery.
